The David The Dreidel
Commitment

Our Commitment to Tzedakah & Tikkun Olam

While our first priority is to put a smile on childrens’ faces, our hope for this book is deeper. With this project, we want to honor two of the most important Jewish mitzvot:  Tzedakah – give back to those in need and Tikkun Olam – do what we can to take care of the world. Here’s how we are embodying those principles.

Tzedakah

Tzedakah is more than just giving back to those in need. Embodying Tzedakah means truly embodying generosity, at all times and in as many situations as possible. Thanks to the generosity of the backers from our crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, 29 books were donated to JCCs and local Jewish preschools across the country as a part of our “Get a Book – Gift a Book” program. While we were overwhelmed by the generosity, we decided to mirror that generosity and turn those 29 books into 50 that will be enjoyed this Chanukah season.

eden-village-camp In addition to donating copies of David The Dreidel to local JCCs and preschools, we will be donating 1% of our profits to a different Jewish organization each year. For our inaugural year, we have chosen an organization that lines up with our values perfectly, Eden Village Camp. Their commitment to sustainability, a culture of kindness, inclusion, and creativity are all values that we can get behind 100%. The fact that they are a summer camp and that was a huge inspiration for David The Dreidel, helps too!

Repairing the Earth is of the utmost importance as we deal with climate change and issues of social justice with more and more regularity. While our main focus is sharing fun, children’s stories that bring joy and laughter, we still want to leave our physical world better than we found it.

We’ve partnered with EcoEnclose, a local shipping supplies company that “believes that leading e-commerce brands can and will become a sustainable and regenerative force for the environment.” With there support, we’ve been able to:

  • send our products using re-usable AND recyclable materials (yes, please re-send the packaging your book arrives in)
  • print our labels using a thermal printer, hence not adding any ink cartridges to landfills – ever
  • print our greeting cards on recycled paper
